Located on the road up to Levera, this caldera (remnants of an extinct
collapsed volcanoe) has filled with fresh terrestrial runoff. Covering
approximately 16 acres, the lake is home to a wide diversity of species:
coconut tress, sugar cane, bananas, watermelons, and other agricultural
crops; the lake and neighboring mangrove support tropical birds, fishes,
crabs, and other unique marine life. Birdwatchers frequent the lake regularly
as it is a favorite stopping point for migratory birds. Just minutes
from the lake are Antoine Bay and beach, situated on the rugged Atlantic
coast; the rough surf and blossoming mangrove are well known and accessed
by many. Don’t forget to visit the historical River Antoine Rum Distillery
just around the corner.
